What is cold pressed juice?

Cold-pressed juice is made by applying immense pressure to fruits and vegetables using a hydraulic press. This process preserves natural flavours, nutrients, vitamins and enzymes while minimising heat and oxidation.

In this post, we'll do a deep juicy dive into all things cold pressed and by the end, you'll be an expert.

what are the differences between cold pressed juice and other juice?

Most places use a centrifugal juicer. You know, the ones that have those spinning whizzing blades? Those blades produce a lot of heat which kills most of the healthy goodness.

Cold-pressed juice is made slowly, gently and without heat. This retains the most amount of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and antioxidants present in fresh produce. This results in a highly nutritious and flavourful bevi.

Here at Squished Juice, we have a sexy state-of-the-art hydraulic press that squishes the fresh produce so hard (like a giant bear hug), it extracts the juice very slowly, giving us maximum shelf life making it much easier for Perth cafes & restaurants to use.

So, the next time you're ordering a "fresh juice" whizzed up in front of you at your local cafe, it's likely most of the goodness isn't there... Still, enjoy that foamy mess!

Not all cold-pressed juices are equal.

Prepare to be un-confused!

Cold pressing is just the process of extracting juice. But, it's what happens afterwards that makes all the difference.

Many long-life juices are in fact cold-pressed, but they have been pasteurised and processed afterwards to extend shelf life. This drastically reduces the nutritional content and diminishes the flavour giving it a lackluster profile, often with an odd aftertaste.

We talk about this in more depth here.

Does fresh cold-pressed juice taste better?

Have you ever had a proper glass of fresh OJ? You can instantly tell the difference between fresh juice, and long-life juice, right?

One of the biggest advantages of fresh cold-pressed juice is its ability to preserve the amazing natural flavours of the fruit & veggies.

If you pop open a bottle of our "Hulk" and stick your nose in there, you'll be able smell the rich earth kale, sweet apple and zesty lemon. Now we know not everyone loves smelling kale, but you get the point.

Unlike other juicing methods that generate heat, or pasteurised long-life juice (including high pressure processing), our fresh cold-pressed juice is raw and unprocessed. This means you're getting juice that's actually bursting with all the healthy goodness you desire.

Our hydraulic press machines in action! The fruit pulp is held in pressing bags and is pressed under immense pressure to slowly extract the juice.

Is fresh cold-pressed juice healthy?

Why do people want to drink juice in the first place? To feel healthy? For the lovely taste and flavours? The amazing health benefits?

If the reasons are any of the above, then fresh (unpasteurised) cold pressed juice is the only way to go. It's the only way you gain maximum nutritional value and amazing taste!

Slow and steady wins the nutrient race!

By taking our time to extract the juice with no heat, we manage to retain the maximum amount of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and antioxidants present in the fruits and vegetables. This means you're getting a nutrient-packed juice.

Remember, this does not apply to long-life cold-pressed juice.

Long-life cold pressed juice, has been pastuerised (processed using heat or pressure) which diminishes the nutritional value and gives the juice a cardboard like flavour.

How long do the juices last?

7-11 days. Let's explain:

Fresh cold pressed juices have a short-shelf life relative to other processed beverages.

At Squished Juice HQ, we've worked very hard over the years to naturally increase the juice's life whilst expanding our delivery days to help combat our stockists having any wastage.

Lab-tested.

As part of our council approval, we are one of the only juice companies in Perth to gain regulated lab-tested shelf-life verification.

In our lab tests, all of our juice flavors demonstrated a shelf life of 8-11 days when stored below 5 degrees celsius.

However, to ensure utmost freshness and quality, we provide our juices with an 8-day shelf-life from the day of production.

We take into consideration that the refrigerator temperatures at our stockists' locations may not always be consistently below 5 degrees celsius, so we err on the side of caution to account for this variation.

Your satisfaction and the longevity of our products are our top priorities, plus no one likes a sad looking juice bottle.

Made to order.

We make our freshly pressed juices to order for our wholesale stockists. This ensures our products have maximum life for our customers.

The fresh produce is pressed, bottled and then delivered. All under 24 hours.

That's all for now, folks.

Hopefully we've answered the age old question: "What is cold-pressed juice?".

We've been doing this almost 10 years now, and it is certainly a question we get asked a lot.

For us, it's important to highlight that cold pressing is just the process of extracting juice. It is what occurs afterwards that really matters.

If the juice is raw & unprocessed, that is the best possible outcome if you're after awesome taste and optimal health benefits.

If the juice has been processed and/ or pastuerised (long-life), you're no longer drinking fresh juice. It's a different product.
